Delhi Aerocity Metro Station to Emerge as a Major Interchange Hub

Delhi Aerocity Metro Station on the Airport Express Line is set to transform into one of the most significant interchange hubs in the Delhi Metro network, with its planned integration into the Tughlakabad–Aerocity Golden Line under Phase 4 of the Delhi Metro project.

Recently, approval has also been granted for extending the Golden Line from Aerocity to the Terminal 1 IGI Airport Metro station, covering a length of 2.263 kilometres. This extension will further enhance airport connectivity for passengers travelling from South Delhi.

Looking ahead, Delhi Aerocity is poised to become a triple interchange station. The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has proposed interchange facilities at Aerocity for its upcoming Delhi–Alwar corridor, making the station a critical multimodal transport hub in the NCR region.

The upgraded Aerocity station will feature platform-to-platform connectivity (on one side) and concourse-to-concourse paid-area connectivity between the Airport Express Line and the Golden Line. The Golden Line platform will be constructed at a depth of approximately 22 metres.

To accommodate interchange requirements, the Golden Line station will be significantly longer—around 290 metres, compared to the usual 260 metres for typical interchange stations.

As per the planned alignment, the Golden Line and the proposed NCRTC corridor will intersect almost diagonally. Structural provisions for a future NCRTC platform will be incorporated during construction, ensuring seamless integration when the corridor becomes operational.

This new interchange is expected to deliver a major connectivity boost to South Delhi, linking areas such as Tughlakabad, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur, and surrounding localities directly to all terminals of the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

With the Golden Line’s extension up to Terminal 1—connected to the Magenta Line—passengers from South Delhi will gain direct metro access to Terminal 1. Additionally, travellers arriving at Terminal 1D will be able to reach the Airport Express Line via the Golden Line interchange at Aerocity, significantly improving airport transit convenience.
