Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Launches QR-Based Ticketing for Lucknow Metro

Lucknow, February 16, 2026: In a major step towards smart and digital mobility, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has launched a QR-based ticketing system for the Lucknow Metro, enabling commuters to book tickets from home through a mobile application.

The system was formally inaugurated by UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar at Hazratganj Metro Station.

Book from Anywhere, Travel with a Scan

Under the new facility, passengers can book QR tickets via:

  • The “Lucknow Metro Official” mobile app (available on Play Store and iOS)

  • QR-enabled Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs)

  • Ticket counters at metro stations

Passengers booking through the app will receive a digital QR ticket on their smartphones. Paper QR tickets will also be available through designated TVMs and counters.

To travel, commuters must scan their QR ticket at the yellow-striped Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates at both entry and exit points. Scanning at both gates is mandatory.

Each metro station now has:

  • At least one QR-enabled TVM

  • One QR-enabled ticket counter

UPI payments have been enabled at QR ticketing machines, while token-based travel will continue at other vending machines. “QR Support” stickers have been placed on machines to help passengers easily identify the new system.

NCMC Card Facility Coming Soon

Speaking at the launch, MD Sushil Kumar described the initiative as a milestone in Lucknow Metro’s smart mobility journey.

“The launch of the QR-based ticketing system is a significant milestone in the journey of the Lucknow Metro. This new system is based on the concept of ‘Smart Travel,’ allowing you to book your ticket from anywhere, offering a faster, simpler, and more convenient travel experience,” he said.

He further announced that the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) facility — aligned with the Government of India’s ‘One Nation, One Card’ vision — will soon be introduced in Lucknow, following implementation in Kanpur and Agra. The NCMC will allow passengers to travel seamlessly across metros and other public transport systems nationwide where the facility is available.

Digital Push in Urban Transport

The QR ticketing rollout aligns with India’s broader Digital India vision and reflects a growing shift among metro systems toward cashless, app-based, and interoperable ticketing solutions.

With the upcoming NCMC integration, Lucknow Metro is poised to further enhance passenger convenience and strengthen its smart transit ecosystem.
