The Phase II corridor will span 11.16 km from Charbagh to Basant Kunj, featuring 12 stations, including seven underground and five elevated stations. The project is estimated to cost ₹5,801 crore and is designed to significantly improve connectivity across Old Lucknow and the city’s western areas.
The project was approved by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on August 12, 2025.

Officials said construction work on the Charbagh–Basant Kunj East–West corridor is expected to commence within the next three months, as key tenders have already been finalised.
Metro authorities confirmed that ground investigation and geotechnical surveys have been completed, enabling a smooth transition into the execution phase.
Funding Structure
The project will be jointly funded by the Central and Uttar Pradesh governments, with additional financing arranged through bank loans. Of the total project cost:
-
₹2,901 crore will be shared equally between the Centre and the State
-
₹2,900 crore will be raised through bank loans
-
The Centre’s share includes the ₹1,450 crore allocation announced in Union Budget 2026–27
Sources said both governments will actively facilitate loan arrangements to ensure timely execution of the project.
Five-Year Timeline
The corridor is targeted for completion within five years. Metro officials also revealed that efforts are underway to attract foreign investment to support advanced construction technologies and systems for the underground sections.
